This project juxtaposes moments from before and after the COVID-19 pandemic on the same page, offering a visual exploration of disruption and dissonance. Photographs taken during a 43-day trip across Europe in 2019 are paired with fragments of newspaper articles and images published on the same calendar dates in 2020.
By bringing together these two timelines, the work invites reflection on how a global crisis can pierce through the fabric of daily life. The black shapes that appear to crack across the pages are proportionate to the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Korea on each respective day, serving as a visual metaphor for the scale of collective anxiety and social tension.
The book is not simply a travelogue nor a chronological archive of the pandemic. Rather, it is a personal yet collective documentation of rupture—where memory and reality collide. This project encourages the viewer to experience both temporalities simultaneously and reconsider the fragility of what we once considered ordinary.

이 프로젝트는 COVID-19 팬데믹 전후의 시간을 한 지면 위에 병치하여, 일상 속에 발생한 단절과 균열을 시각적으로 표현한 작업입니다. 2019년, 유럽을 43일간 여행하며 촬영한 사진들과 2020년 같은 날짜에 발행된 신문 기사 속 이미지 및 텍스트 조각들을 한 페이지 안에 나란히 배치하였습니다.
팬데믹이라는 전 지구적 사건이 개인의 일상에 어떻게 침투하고 흔들었는지를 보여주기 위해, 두 시점의 자료를 충돌시키는 방식을 선택하였습니다. 페이지를 가로지르는 검은 조각들은 마치 종이에 금이 간 것처럼 구성되어 있으며, 이 조각들의 면적은 해당 날짜의 대한민국 내 COVID-19 확진자 수에 비례하여 설계되었습니다. 이는 감각적으로 보이지 않는 공포와 긴장을 드러내기 위한 시도입니다.
이 책은 단순한 여행 기록이나 코로나 연대기가 아닌, 개인의 기억과 사회적 현실이 교차하는 지점에서 탄생한 하나의 시각적 아카이브입니다. 이 작업은 독자로 하여금 팬데믹 이전과 이후의 감각을 동시에 체험하게 하며, 우리가 당연하게 여겨왔던 일상과 그 안에 스며든 변화의 실체를 다시 바라보게 만듭니다.
